New Head of School - Mr Matthew Bennett

Mr Matthew Bennett

Mr James Caddy, Chair, and the Council of Governors at Clifton High School are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Matthew Bennett as Head of School from September 2020. Mr Caddy said, “We are delighted to be welcoming Matthew to Clifton High.  He will build upon the successes and outstanding achievements made by the School during Dr Neill’s tenure”.

Mr Bennett is currently a Deputy Head at Bristol Grammar School.  In his time there he has been responsible for the development of the academic, pastoral and staffing aspects of the school, while working closely with the pupils.  Previously, he was at Denstone College in Staffordshire where he was Head of Biology, Head of Middle School and also ran a Boarding House for the younger pupils.

Matthew is a bee-keeper, owning two hives of his own so he will fit in well at Clifton High.  He is an avid reader, an ardent traveller and a keen runner, and also finds time to enjoy theatre and film.

Reflecting on his appointment, Matthew said, “I am extremely excited to be appointed as Head of such a forward-thinking school.  I am keen to continue developing aspects of the School from the Hive to the Sixth Form and to work with young men and women who use their talents for the good of others. Clifton High is well known for its approach to nurturing the lives of young people, placing equal importance on their personal, social and emotional development along with academic achievement.  To be able to lead a team of strong professionals at this wonderful school, renowned for its close family community, will be a great privilege”.
