The Art, Textiles and Product Design departments joined forces to take 49 GCSE and A level students to London see various inspiring exhibitions at the Victoria and Albert Museum and National Portrait Gallery.
In the morning, the Pink Floyd exhibition was an immersive multi-media experience, including video projections, music, album cover artwork, concert stage props and design drawings. Textile students also visited the haute couture designs of Cristobál Balenciaga, designer to the rich and famous and product design pupils were informed by the “Plywood: Material of the Modern World” exhibition.
Students then travelled onto the National Portrait Gallery to see the BP Portrait Award, which contained some amazing photo-realistic paintings. The various artworks and designs will no doubt inspire the pupils’ projects this year.
