On Friday 5th October, a 28 strong squad of Clifton High School pupils from Years 5-11 set off to the University of Bath to compete in the British Schools Biathlon Championships. The event welcomed competitors from 22 schools across the South of England. Pupils competed in a separate running and swimming race with distances ranging from 50-200m in the pool and 800-1600m on the track, dependant on age category.
Clifton High School achieved some incredibly impressive results with the Under 12 boys and the Under 14 girls triumphed; finishing at the top of the leader board in the team events. In the Under 14 girls’ team, Megan from Year 9 placed 1st overall after recording a final 400m lap time of 1.15 in her race event. Amelia in Year 9 was just behind her in 2nd place and Sophie in Year 9 finishing 7th.
Other individual achievements included Olivia in Year 8 who won her Under 13 age category, followed by Millie, also in Year 8, in 4th place. Lucy in Year 10 placed an impressive 3rd in the tougher Under 15 category where longer distances were involved.
In the younger age groups, Lucia in Year 7 secured 3rd place and Sam in Year 5 achieved 4th place for the boys. We are still waiting on the results for the Under 10 and Under 11 girls’ events.
Overall, it was an exceptionally successful day, with personal bests broken and podium positions earned; an entirely new experience for some. Well done to all the pupils involved.
