Drama

20th May 2013

The drama department prides itself on offering all pupils the opportunity to excel in expressing themselves through theatre, whether this is through design or performance.

From Year 7 we encourage experimentation with a variety of forms of theatre and concentrate on developing individual self -confidence and team work skills. The curriculum at KS3 is varied and challenging. In Year 9 for example, all pupils participate in devising original play and performing them to the juniors as part of a Theatre in Education festival.

Drama is a popular GCSE choice, with the groups achieving some outstanding results. The pupils perform twice a year in scripted and devised work and enjoy seeing productions and attending workshops with professional theatre companies.

By the time pupils reach the sixth form they are highly skilled individuals and benefit enormously from the confidence in their performance group that they have built up over the years. They experiment with form and character without fear and self consciousness and produce performance work of excellence.

Extra curricular drama is strong, with all pupils able to take courses in both speech and drama and musical theatre. The school production offers opportunities for large cast work at a professional level.
