Life is an incredible journey and for many students participation in a World Challenge expedition will represent a significant step on that journey. Students who join an expedition will embark on an amazing journey of self-discovery. The life skills they learn will not only aid personal development, but may help to secure university places or impress a future employer. Participants build strong friendships and gain confidence - all whilst having the time of their lives!
In the course of an expedition students will face a series of mental and physical challenges, taking them outside their comfort zones and teaching them how to overcome adversity. They will become more aware of their own strengths and weaknesses.
Students participate by working as a team, taking responsibility, setting and meeting objectives and learning to become confident decision makers.
They will learn to become more environmentally aware by exploring diverse landscapes and will become more understanding of other cultures. They will gain a broader global perspective and a greater respect for the world.
In 2006 we visited Cambodia and Thailand. Students planted 150 coconut trees in the grounds of an orphanage so that it could move towards self sufficiency. They also helped with some of the lessons. They went rafting and trekking in Thailand and enjoyed a well deserved period of rest and recuperation on one of its islands.
In 2008 students helped to build a new school house in a remote mountain village before climbing Mount Elgon (4321m)! It came as quite a shock to experience snow that close to the equator!
In 2010 we visited Nicaragua and Costa Rica. We trekked up volcanoes, white water rafted down rivers, planted trees, helped build a village pond and were on turtle nightwatch on the look out for poachers.
In 2012 an expedition went to Namibia where we helped refurbish a school and worked with children before embarking on an incredible safari and landscape trekking experiences.
