Musical opportunities abound at Clifton High. KS1 children are taught by our dedicated music teacher. Throughout KS1 the children learn about music by a hands-on approach which enables them to develop at their own pace. Each half term the children learn about a different element of music (tempo, rhythm, dynamics, texture, timbre (sound quality) etc.) After learning about these elements the ideas are taken forward into compositional and improvisational activities, leading to performance. Different topics range from sounds we hear around us and ‘firework music' to cartoon music and sounds long and short.
The weekly class music lesson is complemented by year group and Key Stage singing lessons in which children learn songs from different parts of the world, traditional songs and songs from different genres. Children can enjoy individual tuition on an instrument of their choice and there is a group recorder club.
Children perform in assemblies, the Christmas performance and a concert.
