Art

18th May 2013

Art is an integral part of the Key Stage 1 curriculum and provides an opportunity for children to express themselves in two and three dimensional media. They develop their skills in observational and imaginative drawing, paint-mixing and blending, using clay and plasticene for sculpture and relief work and textiles and printing techniques.

Art is interwoven into topics such as Journeys, Creation Myths, Plants, Animals and Festivals and the children produce original Christmas cards for charity.

Pupils in Years 1 and 2 have spacious classrooms allowing for a wide variety of art activities and they have access to a dedicated art room.

There are regular visits to local galleries, museums and artists; illustrators and designers visit to work alongside and inspire the children.
