History

24th May 2013
"History adds colour to the curriculum. It tells you about life itself, about people, their triumphs and struggles, and introduces you to some of the most colourful characters imaginable."

History is taught in a cross-curricular manner at Key Stage 1, so that children have the opportunity to consider themes such as health and safety in a historical context e.g in Year 1's "Homes" topic or Year 2's "Explorers" topic. Discussion, studying artefacts, drama, role play, reading and writing are all aspects of the history curriculum and combine to fuel the children's enthusiasm for learning about the past.

Visits to St Fagan's, Weston-super-Mare Museum, Berkeley Castle and Bristol docks further enhance the KS1 curriculum and help to make history exciting for the children.
