English and drama

23rd May 2013
The teaching of literacy unites the important skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening.  We provide appropriate, exciting and stimulating challenges to suit a range of learning styles. Our children use their literacy skills across the curriculum to develop their powers of imagination, inventiveness and critical awareness.

The curriculum, broadly based on the Primary Framework for Literacy, is complemented by visiting authors, illustrators and theatre groups, an annual Book Week, a termly book club, participation in the Children's Book Competition, sponsored book reads, an annual Book Fair, visits to the theatre and participation in drama performances.

Key Stage 1 has a separate library and year groups have their own libraries so children enjoy access to a vast array of fiction, non-fiction and poetry books, to satisfy all interests and personal tastes. All classes have speaking and listening centres.
