Design Technology allows children to explore and experiment and to feel the satisfaction of having created something unique; it is essentially about designing and making and encompasses working with resistant materials, textiles and food. At Key Stage 2 children build upon the basic D.T. skills learned in KS1. One D.T. unit is covered each term and, when appropriate, the topic will be related to other areas of the curriculum being studied. Topics include Healthy Eating, Control Mechanisms, Musical Instruments and Fairground Attractions . Schemes of work reflect and build upon National Curriculum objectives.
The children have access to dedicated, spacious and well-resourced Art and Craft rooms.
The children have taken part in national design competitions, their greatest triumph being reaching the finals of the Lunchbox Derby, held in America!
