History

21st May 2013
"History adds colour to the curriculum" (Brian Walden, author). It tells you about life itself, about people, their triumphs and struggles, and introduces you to some of the most colourful characters imaginable.

History in Years 3-6 has close links with ICT, English, Art and Design Technology. Topics include: Romans, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, Tudors, Victorians, World War II and Bristol- an historical perspective. The children experience of an array of software and websites and participate in practical design and art activities, individual and group research and empathetic writing.

The curriculum is enhanced by visits to the Roman Baths, the SS Great Briton, Bristol Castle, Bristol Museum, the Imperial War Museum, the GWR Museum and Ironbridge, visiting speakers and the study of historical artefacts. Ancient Roman feasts, a mini Olympics and a Tudor re-enactment add to the fun and ensure that History is exciting for the children.
