At Clifton High mathematics is fun!
Our aim is to provide pupils with the necessary skills to understand the world and everyday life by developing their ability to think in abstract ways, to calculate, to reason logically, algebraically and geometrically, to handle data and to make decisions.
Mathematics is crucial to learning in other areas of the curriculum and is not seen as an isolated subject.
Teaching is delivered to whole classes, groups and individually as appropriate, with both mental and written activities, formal recording and informal jottings with regular assessment to inform future teaching. The approach is systematic with a flexible approach ensuring that mental strategies are used appropriately.
A week devoted entirely to Mathematics is a feature of our calendar and we have maths workshops and games on Open days as well as entering teams in the local Maths Challenge.
