Business links

22nd May 2013

The world of business can seem a daunting prospect for those still in full time education and our students at Clifton High School will be asking themselves just how relevant are their skills and qualifications for the long journey that lies ahead. Their world of opportunity may be very different to that of their parents and their ability to embrace the unknown, to grasp opportunities and to shoulder responsibilities are concerns that Clifton High School takes most seriously in the provision of a broad and balanced curriculum.

Business Dynamics is part of our Enrichment Programme for all of our senior students - a high quality course that aims to prepare our students to meet the new challenges that lie ahead. It is designed to inform, involve and inspire 16 - 18 year-old students and to enhance their key skills. Business Dynamics provides a first-hand view of real life beyond school and college. The course is hosted off-site by a multinational company, currently Airbus UK, and on-site through a series of interactive presentations led by working business managers and professionals.

Business means being active, and whether it is Design and Development, Personnel, Production, Finance and Management, Marketing or Small Enterprises, our students mean business. Students will enjoy working on equal terms with leaders from the manufacturing and service sectors, exploring new opportunities that require new thinking and new talents.

Pupils who have particular interests in specialised academic areas will exploit these links in a variety of ways. Our sixth form physics students are again taking part in the Engineering Education Scheme. They are working on a real life project that addresses the need for a device to ensure the correct alignment of holes drilled in aircraft wings. Working at Airbus UK's workshops at Filton they will consider a number of possibilities before carrying through the design process in detail with their chosen solution. The final design will be built and tested in front of the Airbus UK engineers.

We are always keen to set up additional links with industry and would welcome suggestions from local businesses.
