Physical Education is a key part of the curriculum, not only for competitive sport, but for promoting a healthy lifestyle through the enjoyment of sport and exercise.
The range of sports on offer at Clifton High is already impressive and we look forward to building on this for our boys in the Upper school. Pupils get a chance to take part in a wide range of sports as they progress through the school: hockey, football, netball, swimming, gymnastics, dance, tennis, rounders, athletics, indoor tennis, badminton, rugby, basketball, volleyball, fitness training activities, badminton, table tennis, cricket, trampolining, squash, use of exercise machines at a local gym and rock climbing.
We also enjoy good links with the following clubs who use the facilities at Coomble Dingle as well. Many of the children at the school play for these clubs and benefit from this relationship.
Bristol Ladies' Union Football Club
Clifton Ladies Hockey Club
Rockleaze Rangers Football Club
St Brendans Rugby Club
Stoke Bishop Cricket Club
Westbury Hockey Club
School teams are organised for football, rugby, hockey, netball, tennis, rounders, athletics and swimming with an extensive programme of fixtures midweek and at weekends. Pupils are often entered for County trials and competitions with many pupils achieving County representation and some going on to achieve National Honours. AS & A2 Physical Education is also offered at Clifton High.
Apart from lessons, overseas tours are arranged for netball and hockey with the next tour planned for Summer 2011. There are also traditional Sports Day and House Tournaments in all sports allowing all pupils to take part.
To complete the year, an Annual Sports Dinner is organised to celebrate success and present awards to pupils.
