Earlier today, Mr Taylor, Head of School Games, introduced an exciting new tennis partnership to pupils during morning assembly.
Similar to the School’s existing partnership training with Bristol Henleaze Swim Performance Club, this excellent sporting opportunity will offer an elite tennis programme, unique to Clifton High, and further strengthen our existing partnership with the University of Bristol at Coombe Dingle.
As part of the School’s extra-curricular club provision, initially the University’s Sports Department will offer a series of tennis lessons for Clifton High pupils with national level coaches. Longer term, this partnership will generate potential player pathways into club, regional and national tennis for the most promising candidates.
University staff recently delivered an introductory session to children in Reception to Year 4 as the first offering in this new programme. In the New Year, Nursery children will also begin to receive tennis coaching as part of their curriculum for 30 minutes twice a week; research suggests that an aptitude for tennis can be spotted in children as young as three years old!
Extra-curricular lessons can be taken up by pupils of all abilities, promoting both participation and competition tennis across the School from Nursery-Year 13.
We very much look forward to the official launch of the new tennis programme in January and to working with the University of Bristol to cultivate Clifton High’s most talented players, with the prospect for them to advance their skills to national level.
