There are over 100 extra-curricular clubs and societies at Clifton High School ranging from young contrarians, astronomy and animation to fencing, swimming and taekwondo. The clubs are split into three categories to ensure that pupils are developing into holistic individuals. The categories are:
We actively encourage children to partake in an activity from each area to ensure a range of skills are being developed. Pupils are encouraged to pursue their interests and follow their passions by taking up the many extra-curricular activities on offer. Our extra-curricular programme is fundamental to life at Clifton High School as we firmly believe this enriches and broadens the educational opportunities open to our boys and girls. Clubs and societies are open to children from Years 1-13 and take place before, during and after School.
We have unique partnerships with sporting associations such as Bristol Rugby, the Lawn Tennis Association, the University of Bristol and Bristol Henleaze Swimming Club. The programmes that they run within the School provide our pupils with elite coaching and player pathways in to participation up to international standard, drawing links with our growing Talented in Sport programme. This cannot be found in any other School within Bristol.
As pupils move up through the School they are encouraged to take a more active role in initiating and leading clubs and societies; allowing them to develop their own interests while providing an opportunity for leading others. Clubs and Societies
In addition to our clubs and societies we run a number of enrichment programmes for Senior School pupils; these have been developed to provide a broader range of skills and a greater appreciation of the world of work and the opportunities available to them. Year 10 and 11 pupils follow our Life Skills and Competencies programme while those in the Sixth Form follow our Futures and Skills programme. Both programmes provide current information relevant to each age group.
Alongside these activities we also have an ongoing timetable of educational trips and visits both at home and overseas; Senior School pupils benefit from language and technologies trips to Germany and Spain, ski trips to The Alps, sports tours to Barbados, Classics tours to Italy and theatre and art trips to London to name but a few. In addition pupils can take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (Bronze and Gold), World Challenge and a variety of outdoor pursuits and initiatives.
