Year 1 children visited Tyntesfield Estate to take part in an educational workshop about toys and games of the past to support their ‘Toys Past and Present’ topic.
The children were thrilled to explore hands-on toys from the past. Tiddlywinks and marbles proved very popular along with the outdoor game of Hopscotch. Boys and girls climbed up to the very top of the Main House, to the Gibbs children’s day nursery. They were fascinated by the Punch & Judy theatre and the wooden toy ice cream cart.
Pupils learnt many historical facts and returned to the class room to make kites and blow bubbles as they explored natural forces in science lessons.
To conclude their learning on this theme, next week the pupils are holding a used toy sale to raise funds for their local Hedgehog Sanctuary.
