During half term, 48 pupils in Years 7-11 travelled to Lisbon, Portugal to enjoy five days of hockey and football training sessions and matches, as well as a variety of other excursions.
Pupils took part in a number of fixtures, many against high calibre and competitive teams. Everyone played with impressive effort, practising a range of new skills and displaying excellent teamwork. Liam in Year 7 noted how “everyone supported each other throughout the matches”, whilst Lucinda in Year 11 remembers how “the level of commitment was outstanding from all members of the teams.”
The group enjoyed a variety of other activities, including a tour of the ‘Stadium of Light’, home of Benfica Football Club, learning how to surf under the guidance of qualified instructors and visiting the historic city of Lisbon. The visit also offered an opportunity for pupils across year groups to become better acquainted, as Liam comments “being able to bond not just with our own year group but with others as well, was a real highlight.”
All pupils were polite and enthusiastic ambassadors for Clifton High School and the accompanying staff were very proud of their positive efforts toward all of the activities. A generous thank you also to Mr Collins, Mrs Bowkett, Mr Taylor, Mr Bitterlin, Mr Mullins and Mrs Bagnall, for ensuring everyone had a fulfilling and enjoyable time away. Lucinda said “I look back on our time as filled with laughter and excellent experiences with a great group of people!”
